Good god, could they have found a more patronizing interpreter? I particularly love the intonation she gave to "Yankee imperialist go home." One also wonders why they gave Chavez a female interpreter: seems odd that most everyone on teevee gets an interpreter that is their gender and fakes their national accent.
I also found the interpreter a bit sullen and overly silken-tongued, but at least she was fluent. That's better than many interpreters on the news, where abstract concepts are reduced to monosyllabic mixed metaphors.

ReplyDeleteYes: see the interpreter for Chavez' interview on Tavis Smiley. Chavez is an awesome orator.
